COMMERCIAL

A commercial project can mean anything from a recording or broadcast studio to an office suite, concert hall, or house of worship—each with its unique set of acoustical requirements and challenges. Because we bring the skills acquired in our residential, museum, and diverse commercial work to bear on each project, we are often selected for unique commercial projects where the goal is to optimize both the acoustic and audio aspects of these premier spaces.

“We are proud to have built strong diversity in key areas outside our core markets of residential and museum projects. Owners and design teams have sought out our services for a wide variety of commercial spaces, not just for our technical acumen but for our emphasis on strong team communication and solving challenges while avoiding cookie-cutter solutions. Our mindset of addressing acoustic and audio needs as one also has strongly contributed to our success in many of these projects.”

RECORDING & BROADCAST STUDIOS

SH Acoustics has years of experience designing sound-isolation solutions for professional recording and broadcast facilities as well as treatments that control and shape reflected sound, ensuring that what you hear from your monitors is exactly the sound that’s being delivered to your clients and listeners.

CORPORATE

Since noise can be a productivity killer, we evaluate a building’s architectural layout to identify inherent sound conflicts, working to ensure sufficient sound containment and speech privacy. We can also create solutions to control footfalls and other impact noise from spaces above. In conference rooms or other areas that require audio playback or telecommunications, we work to contain the sound and minimize distortions in sound playback. We also work to minimize road and other urban noise pollution, and can perform studies for government noise-code compliance.

PERFORMING ARTS

Performing-arts facilities present unique acoustical challenges, many of them dependent upon the venue’s size and design and when it was constructed. The key goals here are flexibility and adaptability since no two performances are likely to be the same and all need to sound their best. By developing acoustical treatments and sound reinforcement hand in hand, SH Acoustics delivers solutions designed to enhance and clarify the sound of any performance, whether it be musical, dramatic, or informational. We work closely with the building’s owners and, when possible, architects to ensure that each venue has an appropriate sonic signature.

HOUSES OF WORSHIP

Since houses of worship are intended not only for serenity and reflection but also music and celebration, getting the acoustics right is essential to establishing the proper atmosphere. We work with designers, architects, and congregations to develop treatment solutions that support intelligible delivery of the spoken word, as well as clear and impactful music. We are also careful to develop and engineer acoustical treatments and sound systems that won’t conflict with the architectural or interior design of these sacred spaces.

MUNICIPAL

Given its impact on productivity, efficiency, and communication, noise pollution is an increasingly important consideration in the codes and recommendations for municipal offices. SH Acoustics works with building managers—or architects and builders in new-construction projects—to define ambient-noise criteria for each room based on the needs of the space. We also work to reduce or eliminate traffic and other urban noise pollution, and can perform studies for government noise-code compliance. We can design and engineer solutions to minimize mechanical and air noise from fans and HVAC systems, as well as buzzing and humming from light fixtures, and can reduce plumbing noises in sensitive spaces.
